Rosneft Holds Its First Sport Tourism Competition on Baikal's Shore

09 October 2024

Angarsk Petrochemical Company (part of Rosneft's refining complex) organised corporate sports tourism competitions in the Irkutsk Region.   90 oil workers from 15 subsidiaries took part in the competition, which was held on the shore of Lake Baikal in the Utulik village.   The geography of competition participants covered regions from Stavropol to Irkutsk.

Sports development is one of the main aspects of Rosneft's social policy. Rosneft finances the construction of ice rinks, sports centres and multifunctional sport venues. Rosneft also supports amateur sports, promotes healthy lifestyles and involves employees of different ages and physical fitness in sports activities.

Oil industry tourists united for corporate competitions, forming teams to showcase their skills in three disciplines: a cross-sprint in orienteering, along with hiking and trekking routes. A professional-grade tourist trail has been established for testing purposes.

Athletes were challenged to navigate an obstacle course that featured a rafting descent, traversing a zip line, balancing on wobbly logs, and tackling both steep ascents and descents along rugged slopes. The participants demonstrated their knowledge of topographical signs, orienteering and knotting, first aid and stretcher making skills. Professional judges were working on the trail to monitor all the stages of the competition.

The Udmurtneft won the team competition. RN-Vankor athletes took second place, while the Bashneft-Polyus team won bronze.  Oil workers were also awarded in the individual competition based on the results of two disciplines.

At the end of the competition athletes visited the sights of Baikalsk and took part in a fascinating excursion on the deepest freshwater lake in the world - Baikal.
