RN-Uvatneftegaz (a subsidiary of Rosneft) supported the launch of the Days of Indigenous Culture in the Tyumen Region. The festival is expected to attract more than 1,200 guests over the two weeks.

In the ethnographic centre Uvăs Mir Hot (House of the Northern People), created with the support of RN-Uvatneftegaz, guests can learn about the rich culture of the northern ethnic groups, their customs and traditions. The opening concert of the festival featured dancers and throat singers accompanied by the guimbarde. There were organised trips around the ethno-camp for adults and children, and they could also take part in national sports games and taste national food.

The Days of Culture will include interactive excursions and themed events for school children and large families. The festival will also include performances by creative groups, competitions in national Northern multisport, workshops in arts and crafts, an exhibition of photographs and works by Northern poets and writers for the residents of the Uvat District. Guests can also watch The Master of the Taiga, a film about the unique culture and life of the Khanty people of the East. The festival programme will end in the Uvat district, where 30 indigenous families live in 11 camps.

RN-Uvatneftegaz’s assistance in organising this and other traditional national festivals helps to popularise culture and strengthen ties between families and generations.

Throughout the year, the Uvăs Mir Hot hosts national ritual festivals, cultural events, concerts, interactive excursions, local history and language lessons and masterclasses. To immerse visitors in the culture and life of the indigenous peoples, the ethno-industrial site recreates in detail a Khanty hut, a Nenets raw hide tent in summer and winter versions, a food storage lean-to, a kitchen with a clay oven, a hunter’s hut and animal enclosures. Interest in the House of the Northern People is growing — 14,800 tourists have visited since the beginning of the year.

Preservation of the culture of the indigenous peoples of the North is one of the key areas of Rosneft’s social policy. The Company’s enterprises implement numerous social projects in their regions of operation, developing infrastructure in northern villages, supporting reindeer herding families, and improving the material and technical base of educational institutions and social and medical facilities in the ancestral homelands of indigenous minorities.

RN-Uvatneftegaz, together with the Uvat district administration, supports representatives of the Khanty, Mansi and Evenk peoples of the Tyumen region, providing comprehensive assistance in preserving their way of life. The enterprise pays annual tuition fees for young people at specialised secondary and higher education institutions and finances participation in competitions in the national sport of oblas (boat racing). The enterprise provides access to winter roads and ice crossings built for production purposes, and organises fuel distribution in the fields closest to the camps. The enterprise also organises the annual Wealth of the Uvat Taiga festival, which includes a fair of traditional handicrafts from the indigenous peoples of the Uvat District.
