Bashneft allocates more than 9 billion roubles to environmental projects in 2023

12 March 2024

In 2023, Bashneft (part of Rosneft) allocated more than 9 billion roubles to environmental projects, which is a 40% increase on the previous year. Over the last five years, Bashneft has invested more than 30.5 billion roubles to green projects.

Preservation of the environment for future generations is an integral part of the corporate culture of Rosneft. The work of all the Company’s enterprises is aimed at achieving the leading role in the minimization of environmental impact and improving the sustainability level of the production.

Bashneft is effectively pursuing a program of restoring forests and aquatic bioresources. The initiative of Bashkir oilmen over the last five years has resulted in the planting over 4.5 million trees on an area of over 1.3 thousand hectares. New alleys, gardens and parks have also been created in several regions. One of the Company’s key campaigns in 2023 was the planting of 30,000 saplings in the Asly-Kul Nature Park in Davlekanovsky District of the Republic of Bashkortostan, which stimulated the restoration of favourable hydrological conditions for Lake Aslikul, the largest lake in the region.

Bashneft carries out artificial reproduction of aquatic bioresources to maintain biodiversity and preserve ecosystems in the regions where it operates.  In the last five years, oilmen have released more than 5 million fry of valuable fish species, including sterlet, whitefish, salmon and peled, into the water bodies of Bashkortostan, the Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Yugra.

The Ufa Refining Complex’s biological treatment plants processed 134 million m3 of industrial wastewater for the last five years. Biological treatment plants serve not only Bashneft’s refineries, but also treat wastewater from 66 enterprises in Ufa’s northern industrial zone and storm water runoff. Biological treatment plants ensure the highest level of treatment of industrial, storm and domestic wastewater, which increases the volume of reused water in technological processes by 2.5 times. The membrane reactor technology removes all impurities and microorganisms from the wastewater. As a result, the water quality meets the standards for fishery water bodies.

In addition, due to the implementation of environmental projects, Bashneft has reduced atmospheric emissions by 11% over 2019-2023.
