Udmurtneft Introduces Renewable Energy at Upstream Facilities

Udmurtneft (operated jointly by Rosneft and Sinopec) is introducing an alternative power supply system, which uses solar cells to power oil production facilities.
The use of renewable energy sources (RES) in upstream processes contributes to achieving the goals of the Rosneft 2030 Strategy: Reliable Energy and Global Energy Transition. One of the key areas of focus is to reduce the carbon footprint of exploration and production activities.
The geography of Udmurtneft’s fields and the weather conditions of the region allow for efficient utilisation of solar energy for power generation. The introduction of RES will also help solve the problem of supplying electricity to remote wells that do not have access to fixed power grids.
Solar panels have been installed at two injection wells at the Chutyrsko-Kiengopskoye field to supply power to control equipment that transmits data using long-range grid technology.
The project has completed pilot tests, the results of which will be used to roll out the use of renewable energy sources to power an automated control system for injection wells.
Udmurtneft takes consistent measures to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption, as well as to optimise grid loads and heat processes. Preliminary data shows that the enterprise will have saved over 37 million kWh in 2023 as part of the energy saving programme, which equals over 194 million roubles.

Kudinov Udmurtneft is the largest oil-producing enterprise in the territory of Udmurtia, providing 60% of the raw materials produced in the region. The enterprise has 35 fields located on the territory of 14 districts of the republic.
Udmurtneft’s cumulative production since the beginning of its industrial operations exceeds 330 million tonnes of oil.
