Samotlorneftegaz, an enterprise of Rosneft Oil Company’s production complex, saved 209 million kWh of electricity in 2021, which exceeds 800 million roubles in money terms.
Rosneft carries out systematic work on utilisation of resources and reduction of energy consumption, with energy saving being one of the most important elements of its strategy. The Company is focused on improving the performance of production assets and introducing new technologies.
The energy saving programme of Samotlorneftegaz included about 2,200 measures covering all production processes in 2021. The main economic effect was achieved by upgrading equipment in mechanised production. More than 1,000 submersible electric motors with higher voltage, about 100 electric centrifugal pumps with a higher efficiency factor and 44 units of energy-efficient transformers were installed.
The pumping fleet operation has been optimised at 10 surface infrastructure facilities in the reservoir pressure maintenance system. A significant contribution to the implementation of the energy efficiency programme is made by the introduction of Russian-made variable frequency drives.
As a result of modernisation of downhole submersible equipment in mechanical production and pumping equipment for reservoir pressure maintenance, the total saving of energy resources amounted to almost 64 million kWh.
Monitoring and operational analysis of energy consumption is another important area of performance improvement. The electric centrifugal pump units are equipped with 3,300 individual downhole electricity meters. All cluster pumping stations of the Samotlorskoye field are equipped with similar devices. The reservoir pressure maintenance pumps are equipped with 126 individual water flow meters, most of which automatically transmit readings to the enterprise’s information and analytical systems for round-the-clock monitoring of power consumption and prompt correction of equipment operation mode.
Samotlorneftegaz continuously conducts pilot tests of new equipment and technologies to improve energy efficiency. The enterprise successfully tested Russia’s most powerful opposed-impeller pump in 2021. Comprehensive testing has confirmed that the efficiency of this model is 2% higher than that of its counterparts, and the power consumption indicator is 4% lower.
This year the enterprise plans to test a sectional centrifugal pump with an extended service life and improved characteristics. In addition, a new energy-efficient automated boiler house will be put into operation at the Lor-Yoganskoe field as the modernisation of the production complex continues.
The modernisation of the lighting system contributes to energy savings. Over 470 LED energy-saving bulbs were installed at Samotlorneftegaz facilities in 2021.
Note for Editors:
Samotlorneftegaz is one of Rosneft’s main production enterprises. The total acreage of the license areas stands at some 3,000 square kilometres. The enterprise’s cumulative production is over 2.8 billion tonnes of oil and 400 billion cubic metres of gas.
Samotlorneftegaz implemented the energy management system in 2012, confirming its compliance with the ISO 50001 international energy efficiency standard in 2021.
