On March 21, Rosneft together with all its subsidiaries celebrates the International Day of Forests established by the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly. Preservation of the environment for future generations is an integral part of the corporate culture and business principles of Rosneft.
To show its compliance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Rosneft is implementing a comprehensive programme of measures aimed at preserving and restoring forests. In 2019, the Company’s subsidiaries planted about 1 million seedlings.
In total, over 60 subsidiaries took part in tree planting activities in the regions of the Company’s operation.
For example, RN-Yuganskneftegaz is implementing the “Keeper of Cedar Forests of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District—Yugra” target programme, under which more than 475 thousand seedlings of Siberian cedar were planted in 2019. The Company allocated over 70 million roubles for that.
Tomskneft carried out a set of measures for planting about 28 thousand tree saplings; on the occasion of the All-Russian Environment Day, landscape gardening of the town of Strezhevoy was completed. In addition, Siberian cedar seedlings were planted as part of measures to regenerate cedar plantations in the Izluchinsk District of the Nizhnevartovsk Forestry.
A number of subsidiaries annually join the All-Russian Day of Forest Planting. For example, in Tyumen Region, employees of RN-Uvatneftegaz and the Tyumen Oil Research Centre took part in the forest rehabilitation programme of the Uspenskoye Forestry, which was damaged by a fire in 2015. More than 75 thousand seedlings were planted as part of the campaign.
Over 15 thousand employees of more than 80 subsidiaries of Rosneft took part in Green Spring, the Russia-wide environmental campaign. Together, the campaign participants planted about 5 thousand trees. For its active involvement in the Green Spring—the Russia-wide environmental volunteer clean-up—Rosneft was awarded the badge “For Initiative and Significant Contribution to Protection of the Environment.”
Fuel-supply complex Koltsovo planted large-size seedlings of pine and spruce in the forest district of Novosverdlovskaya Central Heating and Power Plant in Yekaterinburg, contributing to preparations for the 2023 FISU Summer World University Games in Sverdlovsk Region. Bratskekogaz employees took part in the planting of Siberian cedar on the territory previously affected by fire in Bratsk District of Irkutsk Region.
Rosneft is working to improve its environmental awareness among the Company’s employees and contractors, as well as young people. For instance, Ryazan Oil Refining Company organised events featuring schoolchildren. During an environmental lesson on the occasion of Earth Day in the Turlatovo settlement, young ecologists from school No. 47 together with employees of Ryazan Oil Refining Company planted more than 30 spruce seedlings.
